Fall is so close, I can smell it! While it’s still 100 degrees here in Texas, we have a few fall trips lined up to Banff, Seattle and Colorado Springs over the next couple weeks that has me planning outfits for the cooler temperatures. Over the past few years there are some autumn styles that have faded out. However there are also some outfits that have proved they are not “trendy”, but instead classic styles. Many of these clothing items used to create these classic looks you may already have in your closet. Pictured are all items from previous seasons, but if you are interested I do have similar items linked for what is available currently. I hope this provides outfit inspiration and a look ahead to fall! Here are a few of my favorite timeless fall outfit ideas!
Cami + Long Cardigan Layers
Probably one of the easiest, most versatile looks for fall! I cannot tell you how often I mix and match a cami with a long cardigan, creating numerous possibilities as the weather turns cooler. (Or if you have a cold office!) Out of all the cardigans I have tried, these are my favorite. They are a little more money than your average cardigan, but so soft and worth the investment! For a cardigan that is suitable in warmer temperatures, these linen cardigans are thin and breathable.
As for camis, have fun! Lace-trimmed camis have been hot sellers the past three years and are not going away any time soon. Add a hat if you’d like, layer with your favorite accessories and you are set!
Gemstone Colored Tunics
Fall brings out those beloved, rich gemstone tones so elegantly – ruby, emerald, amber, sapphire and others are perfect for the season. I love pairing a tunic filled with these deep autumn shades with a pair of jeans and booties!
Ponchos and Wraps
Along with long cardigans, ponchos and wraps are so nice for layering when the temperatures can fluctuate throughout the day. My favorite patterns for ponchos are plaid and houndstooth, but you cannot beat a solid-colored cashmere poncho or wrap. Charcoal-colored ponchos will be a popular color this year that will stay true over the years.
I usually wear these with a long sleeve or 3/4 length shirt. If the shirt is solid-colored, I add a statement necklace that way if I remove the poncho the necklace adds an extra element of style to a plain shirt.
Of note, ponchos and wraps are one of my favorite travel accessories because they are perfect in flight whether they are worn or used as a blanket for my lap!
Collared Button-Ups with Sweaters
This is such a fun category that can be preppy or whimsical. Rather than go for a simple outfit, I encourage you to think outside the box a little and get creative here. Mix colors on the opposite of the color wheel for contrast, or wear these with a fun skirt. Don’t forget to let those pretty cuffs show too!
A few ideas of collared button-ups with sweaters:
– plaid collared shirts with a solid sweater
– leopard print shirt with a burgundy sweater
– navy gingham shirt with camel tan sweater
– chambray shirt with camo sweater
– solid-colored shirt with a spunky sweater (example)
– floral print shirt with magenta sweater
– colorful linen shirt with navy sweater
