Today I am sharing a fun activity that can be enjoyed by all ages: DIY Spring Hot Cocoa Eggs! These are a spring version of hot cocoa bombs that can be made at home. Best of all they do not require a special mold to form the chocolate eggs and all items can be picked up or delivered by Walmart! Once you are done, these are great to individually wrap and give as gifts or enjoy with family!
DIY Spring Hot Cocoa Eggs
Ingredients:
- Kinder Joy Eggs (These are used as your mold, I ordered 6.)
- Melting Wafers
- Hot cocoa mix
- Marshmallows
- Food coloring
- Decorating supplies: color mist spray, sparkle sprinkles, spring sprinkles, etc…
Directions:
- Open the Kinder Joy eggs and remove the chocolate and toy. Rinse out the plastic Kinder Joy packaging as this will work as your mold to make our cocoa eggs!
- Place the melting wafers in a bowl and microwave per packaging instructions. If desired, add food coloring.
- Spoon a small amount of the melted chocolate into the Kinder Joy egg shells, being sure to coat the entire surface evenly. Freeze. (If needed, after freezing for a few minutes, you can add a little extra melted chocolate to the perimeter of the egg shell to reinforce the edges. Refreeze.)
- Once the chocolate shell is solid, carefully pop the chocolate egg halves out of their shell.
- Fill half of the egg shells with hot cocoa powder, marshmallows and any optional sprinkles or edible treats!
- Seal two egg shell halves together using the melting wafers. You can use a dull knife or your finger to do this. Just make sure the melting wafers are cool enough to touch. Refreeze the eggs.
- Add your favorite decorations to the eggs!
- Wrap up for a gift, or dunk your cocoa eggs in a glass of warm milk to enjoy hot cocoa!
To do this fun activity efficiently, I recommend using Walmart’s Online Pickup & Delivery service! The ingredients I used are linked which makes it easy to add them directly to your shopping cart. I love that Walmart’s online pickup service makes grocery shopping very quick and freshness is guaranteed. If you ever aren’t happy, contact customer care for a refund. Their online pickup service is free with a $35 minimum and you can even add select household and fashion items in addition to groceries – like my striped dress! With a small fee, groceries can also be delivered right to your front door! This service is available in select markets, you can search on their website for participating Walmart stores near your zip code. Michael and I have all of our regular favorites saved to our Walmart profile, and grocery shopping has never been quicker or easier. We are obsessed – and I think you will be, too!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Live your life joyfully so,
Ashley
