As a child we spent our Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays visiting family in the outskirts of St. Louis, Omaha or Michigan. Two of those destinations were out in the countryside, filled with pine trees, snowy hills and fresh air. To this day, the holidays don’t feel complete without a little rustic touch.
These place cards are easy to make and use supplies that may already be laying around the house. The greenery is rosemary, which has a beautiful aroma and is actually linked to improving memory – which may explain why these have a nostalgic relationship to childhood Christmases.
DIY Rustic Place Cards
Supplies:
- Index cards
- Pen
- Scissors
- Tape
- Burlap (or similar) ribbon
- Twine
- Freshly trimmed rosemary sprigs
Directions:
- Write a friend/family-member name on the upper corner of index card, keeping about 1.5″ of blank space on the side of the card.
- Measure out ribbon pieces. Ribbon should be long enough to cover the front of the index card and wrap to the back.
- Wrap the ribbon piece around the lower portion of the index card and tape the ribbon on the back of the card.
- Tape one end of the twine to the back of the card, on the ribbon. Wrap twine around the ribboned portion of the card several times, going high and low along the ribbon. Tape the other end of the ribbon to the back of the index card. I circled the twine around each card five times, to maintain a little symmetry.
- Tuck rosemary branch under the ribbon and twine on the front of the card.
- Place cards can be made in advance. Add the rosemary sprig on the day of the event for freshness.
Live your life joyfully so,
